Trying out Ghost.
This is an excerpt I guess!
PersonalI'm doing something new. I knew I wanted to redesign my site at some point, and specifically wanted to add email subscriptions as a feature.[1] I crunched the numbers and it turns out moving to a Ghost blog on Pikapods was actually cheaper than my current cost over at Micro.blog.[2] I never really used the social features there much, and I've been wanting to have a bit more fine-grain control over cross-posting.[3]
Ghost is definitely a very different platform. It seems geared towards indie publications, paid subscribers, featured images on every post, lots of #content. There's no microblogging features or cross-posting built in. So that presents a bit of a shift for my site.
I will continue to post my daily photos over on my various social accounts, along with shorter thoughts that just kinda leap out of my head and through my thumbs. This site will be home to longer thoughts that have, perhaps, stewed in my head, and are delicately arranged by my fingertips. And probably some other crap too. Photo journals and blogs. Stuff like that!
If all that nonsense sounds good to you, you can subscribe to the site's newsletter. I'll try to send something out each month that does a very brief recap of what I wrote, with links and such.
Anyhow. I'm writing this too late in the evening and ought to get back to work on the project I'm procrastinating on. Onward!
As much as I wish everyone used RSS or moved to Mastodon, basically everyone I know doesn't and didn't. ↩︎
I still love the vision behind that site: that everyone should have a website and it should be as easy as signing up for a social network. My old site is archived at micro.davidcs.net. ↩︎
Which I'll be using EchoFeed for! Even with this added cost, it's still cheaper than Micro.blog. ↩︎
